Post-Graduate Studies
Post-Graduate Studies of Shevchenko Institute of Literature trains students for gaining Degree of Candidate of Philology.
Post-Graduate Studies of the Institute proposes courses in such literary specialties:
- Ukrainian Literature (Specialty number in Ukrainian classification – 10.01.01.);
- Russian Literature (Specialty number – 10.01.02.);
- Slavonic Literatures (Specialty number – 10.01.03.);
- World Literatures (Specialty number – 10.01.04.);
- Comparative Literature (Specialty number – 10.01.05.);
- Theory of Literature (Specialty number – 10.01.06.);
- Textual and Source Studies (Specialty number – 10.01.09.).
The admission policy is defined by three directions:
- Governmental order for the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
- Order from Universities;
- Private Contracts (requiring payment; for Ukrainians – 4500 UAH per year ($900), for foreigners – 5,172 UAH per year ($1,035)
Forms of Post-Graduate studies:
- full-time (3 years);
- extramural (4 years).
By-Laws of Post-Graduate Studies in Shevchenko Institute of Literature
- To become a postgraduate student of the Institute one should have a diploma of Specialist or Master of Philology.
- Entrants to Post-graduate Studies of the Institute sit entrance examinations in literary specialty, philosophy, and a foreign language (not native for an entrant) for choice (English, German, Spanish, French). The results of entrance examinations are valid during a year.
- The entrant is informed about admission or refuse in five days from the time the Entrance Commission decides it.
- Every entrant gained admission to Post-Graduate Studies of the Institute receives a supervisor appointed by the Director of the Institute. The supervisor is responsible for quality and timeliness of the work done by the postgraduate student.
- The postgraduate student works under the individual plan, reports twice a year about the work done, and annually is certified by the supervisor and the certifying commission. According to the results of the certification the post-graduate student moves up to the next year of training or is sent down.
- Time of Post-Graduate training is 3 years.
- If the post-graduate student successfully defends the dissertation before the end of time of Post-Graduate training he/she is considered to finish studying completely.
- Entrants to Post-Graduate Studies have to submit such documents:
- 1) Application (to put full name, surname, and patronymic; specialty; form of training, address, phone number).
- 2) Personal information reference (certified by the officer from the last place of work / studying).
3) Curriculum vitae.
- 4) List of published works;
- 5) Entrance paper on the specialty (20–25 pages of printed text: MS Word, font – Times New Roman, type – 12, double-spaced, margins top, right, bottom – 2 cm, left – 3 cm).
- 6) General medical information.
- 7) A copy of the Magister/Specialist diploma.
- 8) Passport and the original of diploma are presented by the entrant personally.
- 9) 3 photos 3?4;
- 11) 2 envelopes with stamps back address.

Doctoral Studies
Doctoral Studies of Shevchenko Institute of Literature trains scholars for gaining Degree of Doctor of Philology.
Doctoral Studies of the Institute proposes courses in such literary specialties:
- Ukrainian Literature (Specialty number in Ukrainian classification – 10.01.01.);
- Russian Literature (Specialty number – 10.01.02.);
- Slavonic Literatures (Specialty number – 10.01.03.);
- World Literatures (Specialty number – 10.01.04.);
- Comparative Literature (Specialty number – 10.01.05.);
- Theory of Literature (Specialty number – 10.01.06.);
- Textual and Source Studies (Specialty number – 10.01.09.).

By-Laws of Doctoral Studies in Shevchenko Institute of Literature
- To become a person working for doctor's degree of in the Institute one should have Degree of Candidate of Philology and published works in the specialty.
- Time of Doctoral training is 3 years.
- If the person working for doctor's degree successfully defends the dissertation before the end of time of Doctoral training he/she is considered to finish studying completely.
- Entrants to Doctoral Studies have to submit such documents:
- 1) Application (to put full name, surname, and patronymic; a specialty; the form of training, address, phone number).
- 2) Personal information reference (certified by the officer from the last place of work / studying).
- 3) Curriculum vitae.
- 4) List of published works.
- 5) A copy of the Magister/Specialist diploma.
- 6) A copy of the Candidate of Philology diploma.
- 7) Passport and the original of diplomas are presented by the entrant personally.
- 8) Detailed substantiation of the topic of the dissertation for Doctor of Philology Degree.
- 9) Extract from the minutes of a department of the Institute where it is approved that the entrant will be trained there and a supervisor of the dissertation will be appointed.
