Ukrainian Literature of the 20th Century

Research Activity

The Department was founded after II World War for the purpose of the complex research of Ukrainian literature of the 20th century as a phenomenon of the national culture. On the basis of new theories and methodologies the scholars of the Department research the literary process of the period, genre structure of Ukrainian literature of the 20th century, evolution of authors’ styles, dynamics of style tendencies in the general cultural context, etc.

The main directions of the research activity of the Department are:

– to work at the academic history of the Ukrainian literature;

– to create collective and individual researches concerning the actual problems of the Ukrainian literature of the 20th century;

– to take part in encyclopedic editions (Ukrainian Literary Encyclopedia, Shevchenko Encyclopedia; Encyclopedia of Modern Ukrainian Studies; Encyclopedia of Ukrainian Culture, etc.)

– to develop the educational programs, hand-books, text-books, and anthologies for schools and colleges; 

– to participate in scientific conferences, symposiums, congresses;

– to popularize important issues in TV and radio programs.
